You can read the details at the link below but the sysnopsis is one of the guys on a non VW forum I frequent just found a 1952 STANDARD (never imported to the US) Zwitter split window out in PA and saved it from the junkyard.   Its been hiding right under our noses all these years.

Needs a full resto, but if you are going to put in the time and money what a car to start with.

but beating the car with the lowering stick to the point where the pan lays on the ground. I think that I will build a old speed 36hp engine with a hot cam and my 356 crank along with dual carbs giving me some extra displacement and double the power.

I can see dropping the car if its pretty much trashed but if its fairly complete, why not restore

Lowering a bug doesnt permanently change anything, it could be put back to a stock ride height with ease.  Granted on something of that vintage I'd probably go stock, but I dont think he's dont any harm in it.

Gentlemen,

read on......

http://www.saltflats.com/36_HP.html

there was a great article in this months "Hot VWs" listing all the classes. Wouldn't be hard to restore a car like that and also mod it in such a way it could compete in this type of events or even be street driven. All the mods are mostly "to the day" so they could be reversed or just left if vintage speed was your thing. Too bad theres not a 1300cc challenge I've got a mostly complete one in the basement!

I knew those old 36 hp mower engines were good for something!  vwlogo

I know the guy somewhat, dont let the turn of phrase bother you he's not going to abuse the car.  But I doubt he will take it back to original either, as long as what he's doing is reversible not a big deal.  And honestly even if its not reversible, if not for him hounding the junkyard this thing would be on its way to being a maytag by now.

I hope so.

Just saw a zwitter at the show last weekend- beautiful cars
