" When it was running well it read like 12.5v"

Your generator should be putting out 14.v plus at moderate engine revs. 2CENTS

Really? I thought 12.5 was pretty normal? Maybe the volt meter isn't reading properly.

I just went  through this  with my buggy. :wallbash: It sounds like you gen brushes or voltage regulator. Mine was the volt reg.

Here are some pictures out of my how to keep your vw alive book.  This is the bible for  VW's

Hope they help .///
If they are to small  to read use your IE zoom to 200%

You buy your own bus, and do what you want to your bus. I'll do what I want to so with mine. Pissing off purists one modification at at time.

Update! Checked the Generator Brushes. They are pretty warn down. I am going to replace them just so I know they are new. I also read in the idiot guide about checking the voltage regulator so I am going to do that too! Question on checking the voltage regulator, do I need a timing light?? or can I just use 2 wires with a light bulb...?? Am I an idiot for even thinking that??

VWPANZER1

Not at all. I used a bulb and two wires for years-Just like it shows in the VW Idiot guide, my bible.   :icon_study:

Awesome! Thanks Joe!  BO**

BTW- I am trying to work out a way for me to make it to the christmas party! Whats the latest I can purchase a ticket?

Don't you have a VOM?  Harbor Freight has them for around $4.00,should have one in your tool box. When your engine is running, put the probes on your battery posts, will give you a voltage reading,as I said, you should have 14 volts showing at the battery.

   Good luck,Bill

Cheap VOM's from HF work great !!! Until you leave them in the SUN too long   @7@
At $2.99 you can't beat them.

Went out and started up the Bug, after checking the oil this afternoon  BO**

Drove down to the school bus stop and picked up grandson Jesse.

He likes it when i pick him up in the Bug.  ( likes it more than his dad's 78 Vet )  777

Just send it in via the club store, the sooner the better! We'll have the list at the door and theres no real "ticket" if you need to check if it went thru just PM me.

Uncovered the bug, checked the oil, filled the gas tank,  and took my wife on a 70 mile cruise thru the pines.  drive&&  Stopped for an early dinner at the Shamong Diner.
I don't know how fast my car will go.
It's more important that I know how fast my car will stop.
