Had a visit from Jack and Glen this morning,,, just a bit chilly, lucky I had my Kenmore dual purpose dryer and heater on..

After taking a look trying to get BlueBelle to life, Jack hooked positive jumper from his truck directly up to her starter. She cranked up...thinking we got a bad cable from battery, I went off to Pep Boys got a shiny new 6 gauge cable, installed, and replaced other ring terminals on starter post... coated with a bit of di grease, went to start it... got just about nothing... Thinking its now the battery, even though I had it charged...went back to Pep Boys, tested battery hoping it was crap, it passed fine...

Hmmmm... Now I'm drawing a diagram of wires...:(

Using a voltmeter, did you get the right voltage to the starter when you turned the key?

Thx Matt. I'm electrically challenged. Have no idea how to do that.

Update: Jack is pretty sure it's a crappy ground. So, I'm taking a few hours off friday am to:

- Polish down with a wire wheel to totally clean bare metal where battery ground is - On newer buses, there is a bolt into the sheet metal, right under where the "Brain" is , near the battery location.

I'm gonna start and see what happens.

- If that does nothing, I'm going to recheck the ground strap on the tranny nose cone.

Then start and see what happens

- If that does nothing, I'm running a second ground cable from the neg battery post to the engine block.

If that does nothing, I'm pushing it out of the driveway so I can go on the cruise saturday with the GlowBug.  Then, push it back in my Kenmore heated garage, and then try to wire in a starter relay. Jack gave directions on an earlier post a few months back to somebody.

Make sure the ground strap on the Trans is going to the stud that the trans mount bolts to the body and not where the trans bolts to the mount.

 Ok,
Shined up body ground point with wire wheel, reconnected to battery, barely turns over.

Shined up engine block bolts, connected second ground cable to battery to one, then another, barely turns over.

Shined up the freakin connectors on the battery cable I'm using for second ground cable, barely turns over.

Thinkin I'm, smart, get out the remote starter, connect to starter/battery cable post and solenoid post, turn on power up at "key" to get fuel pump going, barely turns over.

Gotta go to work now... but my next steps are:

disconnect all wires on starter/solenoid other than directly to battery, and crank away.

also, double check tranny ground, although I have two grounds on the thing now anyway...

Nothing happens then, I'm disocnnecting the alternator wires from the positive battery cable.

At that point, I got nothing but a battery, solenoid, remote starter and a ground cranking on it...

I'll be going to the cruise saturday in my truck...

Daverted

Maybe...  the internal solenoid contact is overheated or corroded, Ive seen the melted inside if they get too hot, if Jack bypassed the solenoid and it turned over fast, Just maybe....   High Resistance in the solenoid ?

Brand new starter/solnoid...replaced in July, along with the brnad spanking new battery, the brand new battery cables, the brand new terminal ends, the brand spankin new tranny ground strap...

Got BlueBelle in nice somewhat heated garage... Gotta go to sleep after working 3rd shift last night.

I miss Tyler and Greg, my third shift chat buddies.

The suspense of getting her started will have to wait a bit...
