Found that the spring for the accelerator pump had popped off. Put it back on and The Meanie is running much smoother!  **^bana0

After trying another two shifters (two different brands) and finally going back to the newer Empi, I still have the same problem -that is when down shifting from fourth to third, it wants to go into reverse (grinds). But  ... only when its moving. Standing still the lockout works great.

I believe the problem is when I cut the pan and the shift rod in 1967, I followed some very early instructions. The only Dune buggy's were Manx and Ocelote. The practice then was to cut the rod so there is no bend. Later years they said to retain the bend.

I'm just going to have to drive it the way I always have, that is; down shift by out of fourth to neutral, pushing left then move it to the right a smidgen, and pull down very lightly and hope for the best.

I also gassed-up the Buggy and cleaned her up for the parade.  UI*USflag

Installed a big flagpole holder & fabricated an anti-eat-the-american-flag-in-the-pulley-and-pi$$-of-the-crowd guard which doubles as a don't-burn-the-flag-in-the-patriotic-parade exhaust shield.  Q3surrender.gif

Left at 6:30 to go to Jacks... Got about a block and the baja started spittin & popping.
So I spun it around and went back to the house. bawlin)0

I started with removing the valve covers, but everything looked OK.

Next step was to break out the timing light. I remember the last 2 times I timed it, the number one wire was pointed staight back, and I noticed when I went to hook up the light that it wasn't. Closer inspection revealed that the locknut on the clamp was gone. I tried to spin the distributor and it was loose.  ?/banghea?/

Baja Rule #1:
Bajas vibrate...a lot. Chit comes loose.

Installed a new nut, set #1 straight back & tightened it up.

Took it for a test drive... No more popping.  **^bana0

BTW Steering is GREAT since Jack worked his magic

Left this morning at 6:00 to go to the parade but didn't make it. Got as far as Exit 17 on the AC Exp. Cruising along at 60 mph, oil light started flickering and getting brighter. Old Frank Farley was just up the road but didn't get that far. Engine just died, no clacking or clunking. Rolled off to the shoulder and checked the oil which was OK.
A state AC Exp tow truck stopped and I told him I was going to just get the wifey to come with the tow bar and off we go. He said it was a private road and I couldn't do that! But he was nice enough to help me push it off the exit.
Towed it home. It turns over but won't start. I don't think it's getting gas, I have to check more when I get some time.
It is possible for the oil pump AND fuel pump to go at the same time?
The Bentley Book says you have to remove the engine to replace the oil pump, is that true. What else could cause lose of oil pressure.   &(rage_
If you have to copy at least be original!

lovebus (jack)

You don't know if you lost oil pressure till you put a gauge on it. It could be running hot for some reason.
You don't have to remove the engine to remove the pump but don't get ahead of yourself.

Your engine did't sound to good when you left the birthday cruise.

You should always start with the basics. valve adjust, timing, check plugs to see if your running lean and check your fan for paper etc.

No fuel could be because it got to hot and vapor locked. A lot to check before you start pulling the engine apart.

Put the Trailer on the bus. 3#blab#

Right side tail light assembly was turning to dust every time I touched it. Replaced it with a new one.  Still have to do left side.
Tried to hook up Trailer lights and forgot you cant use A regular harness. You have to get one of these because of the separate turn signals. ?/banghea?/ 5-wire to 4-wire Tail Light Converter
