Switched gears today (no pun intended) and took inventory of engine parts for my '56 Nigel project. Have to decide on Bug Spray or dual Kadrons, muffler with dual flair tips or header with quite muffler and cylinder size. I have a set of 1500 Variant S jugs. They are domed pistons. Does anyone know the compression ratio for them. Not sure about changing spark plugs with the dual carb set up in a bug engine bay. Looks very tight! I don't think I like the look of a muffler hanging down from the header. Looks to be very low to the ground. Any body have input! Need Input !!!! I think old school cuz I am!

I vote for stock type muffler with dual tips & the Bug Spray Holley. Old school rules

I have the 1500S Varient engine in the Dunebuggy. I never had problems. I used to know the compression ratio but
forgot it. I always used high test because it sits for long periods of time. 70 HP, I think. (with two stock Solex's).

I understand the two carb is the best set-up, short intakes- less gasoline coming out of the vapor. More HP. Porsches, BMW cycles all use the two carb setups.

The Bug Spray was a band-aid carb. The other two barrel's (ie Zenith, Solex, Webers etc's) were all big improvements.

Extractor exhaust is good for 5-10 HP, depends on what else is on the engine. There are hidden set-ups where you can't see the muffler.

My two carb set-ups, once set-up, have been more reliable than any of my single two barrels.

Just my two cents. 2@cent

Thanks Mark and Joe. Mark I agree that old school will be cool for a '56 Oval. I like period correct mods! Joe has a good point about the carbs! By the way, I also found a Holly progressive two barrel in my "parts department". You know the stuff the wife calls junk! Anymore thoughts from members? How about Jack?

Bob:

I have used Holly (Holly/Weber) carbs for years and I liked them. I passed inspection with one that was so clean it met present (1990"s ) standards.

Here's the problem with those carbs. They run excellent for about a year, then the gasoline starts to penetrate the float and they run rich (and bad).
If you have the white float, that's good because that is the replacement float and that float is impervious to NJ gasoline.

Daverted

Ordered fender bolt kit, and some nut inserts.

finally chased down the electrical issue with my horn. works now.

I also like the muffler with dual flair tips and I like the holly and never had a problem with mine plus it looks cool. I almost got one at the spring E-town meet.

Ramon had a bad-az Italian Weber carb that looked like a bugspray, but with an oval velocity stack.
It was way-cool.

I wanted it but had no use for it.  #banghead

Definately needs to be on a resto-rod

Is it to much typing to tell us what the problem was?

I understand if it is, I just like to know that kind of stuff.
