With the knowledge in this group, I'm sure that someone could figure out how to do it, Rich!

I went for a drive evaluation yesterday. I past every test. I don't even need driving controls. I'm trying to sell my pickup and start looking for a van. Then I said to myself, self maybe a VW bus can be converted. I would need an electric sliding door.
The lift itself is 330 lbs.

Just an idea. }dunn--

They look great, but 185,000 miles a little to high. Also the lifting part looks to small for my wheelchair. I'd like to find a newer low milage van. I mist a real nice full size Dodge a month ago. I have time. I don't want to rush into anything.

Right now I'm not sure which way to go. :confused04:;

Sarted searching the samba for VWtrikes' power sliding door conversion... swung over to the magic Googler, looking for same, and what do I get in the first result? Jackwagen's sliding door repair video on the LoveBus..

Of course, I watched it for the third time, both parts, just because..

ok, back to searching for a VWTrike solution

I would avoid the Dodge. (See Consumers). When was in the work-a-day world, I would use Rapid Rover for transportation to and from the Philadelphia airport. At that time they used Dodges and Fords. More than one driver told me that they get three times the milage out of the Fords than the Dodge Vans and they were so much more reliable.

I went through Accessible Vans and Mobility to have hand controls put on my Toyota Camry.  http://avm-cinnaminson.mobilitysales.com/index.php.  800-792-7149.  They also sell vans and mobility equipment.

I bought my Grand Caravan with the ramp from American Mobility http://www.americanmobility.org/ in Delaware.  It doesn't get great gas milage but it has the ramp for my scooter.  They sell lifts and things as well.

I hope these sights might help some.

If we get a VW camper I will be looking for some mobility equipment for that as well.

I did some conversion work when I worked for a custom place a while back.
Auto Loc  www.autoloc.com sells the Linear Actuators and things you would need to pop the door open and pull it closed again.
I think the hardest part would be mounting it in the door and wiring it into a remote control through the oem wiring (time)
Even thats not that hard really.

Hell if I can make a mini truck lift its bed with 200lbs of stereo gear I can make a door open and close  thumpup)-

We can do it!
How many Marks are there?!?!
