 %$oldcit '71 and '72 Supers had mostly the same components as the Beetle. The windshield and wiring were the same. The front sheet metal was bigger/longer. However '73 and up had a different front end. Hood, cowl, windshield, dash, wiring etc. were among the major differences. With the rounded windshield it seemed as though VW was trying to create a dash like most other cars. It also gave the impression that the car was bigger because the front occupants were further away from the windshield!  2@cent

73's had "flat" windshields too. The one I sold to Marc had it. Thus the mis-type that caused this thread to be hijacked in the first place

VW rounded the windshield to comply with the new US safety regulations in 73, The feds said you had to be "x" distance from the windshield. Then they added the shock bumper a year or 2 later.
The 73 and up super is actually 1 1/2" longer than the "flat glass" supers of 71&72.
At least thats what I read...
