Well I did get started on the Luggage Rack early and got it to the point of removing it and realized it was to bulky for me to handle without maybe scratching the paint or dropping it, what to do   



Then out of the blue, I get a text from my  angle "Need any help with your Luggage Rack?"    YES! I do     

A short time later he shows up and takes over    To make a long story short he got everything done that would have taken me another day in just 3 hours, as you can see in the background, even put my awning back on





So all of the top is done (what you can see) and looks white again.   THANKS JAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

      Fixed my stop lights: At the beginning of my test ride, I had brake lights. When I come back -nothing.

  I had signal and tail lights but no stops. Tomorrow's the show and I have to have working stop lights.

Whatever's wrong, is up front. The fuses were all OK, the connecting blocks and connections all  clean.

  Starting from the front, I Jacked up the front and was hoping it's not the stoplight switch on the master cyclinder.

  As I reached to checked the switch, both wires came off in my hand.

   Got off easy, Just a loose fit. A little sandpaper, crimped the connections and even my new larger third brake light was working.

  I had only a 1/2 of wiring diagram in my VW manual. We use to have wiring diagrams on our web sit, maybe we still do, but I couldn't find it.

  Got this from 'The Samba'. Gina got a new printer from work that prints large paper. I had her make me a couple large copies. Sure helps when tracing wires.

  Did you notice those early models had only a 4 fuse block? A small 2 fuse block is hidden under the hood for the lights

I changed my transmission oil.
I had a high pitched whining noise at idle that sort of sounded like a Mopar fuel pump dying. Sometimes if I drove for a while and got everything good and hot it would either go away or not be as bad. I thought maybe it had something to do with my fan or maybe the crank pulley slightly rubbing on something till it warmed up.
A few days ago I noticed it would instantly go away when I stepped on the clutch to put it in gear.
I checked the oil and I couldn't reach it with my pinky, so I topped it off. It was about a half quart low. It didn't stop the noise, so I decided to change the fluid.
Within a few seconds of starting the engine after refilling it the noise seemed to stop.
Now it is either gone or so quiet I can just barely hear it come and go if I put my ear to the cooling intake, and it shifts alot nicer now too.

I read that GL-5 is bad for older transmissions with yellow metals like VW transmissions so I ordered 4 quarts of Brad Penn 80w90 Classic gear oil which is a GL-4 gear oil. I went alot of places looking for GL-4 and everyone told me that they either didn't have it, or haven't had it for a long time. They also told me the GL-5 should work fine.
So I suspect my transmission may have had the wrong oil in it before I drained it anyways.
If nothing else I stopped the noise.

Maybe it was just low on tranny fluid or just old  I just changed mine in the MugBug a month ago and after reading all that tranny fluid stuff on the Samba, i put in Valvoline 80/90 GL4/GL5 shifts nice and smooth 

might be something to ask Matt Steedle the Atco VW tranny expert what he thinks if its an issue or just paranoia

I bought a GPS Speedometer for the trike from Speed hut. The big problem is trying to wiring it in with one hand. Should have it finished by spring.

Thanks  Jack. I have a propane heater that I haven't used in years. Before I do anything I've got to clean the garage out and make some room to move around. I'm not going to use the trike in the winter. I don't think the wiring is hard. I just can't get my hand inside the trike to get to the ignition switch.
The gps speedometer comes from Speedhut.com. They have a nice diagram.

If you don't mind I can use some hands in the early spring.
