Nice!  Does the same key work the ignition? You would get 2  \VW=  \VW= for that!

Yeah that?s true but then the person stealing it would end up spending a thousand or so dollars to replace the headliner and top.

A little while ago, I had a small engine fire. It was enough just burn the electrical components. Most or all of the metal parts are still ok.  Keep in mind that I?m not a mechanic and this is really the first time I?m working on the engine without someone standing over me and watching. I know it?s small stuff, but you gotta start somewhere..haha.

So far I?ve replaced, the air cleaner, cut off solenoid, oil pressure switch, spark plug wires, pertronics ignition, and coil. I still have a few more things to do but I?m leaving the fuel lines and electrical to George.

Word to the wise. Eliminate the fuel filter in the engine area. All this happened because the fuel filter was replaced and it was defective from the factory. Moving it won?t eliminate the chances of a fire, but it will reduce it.
Could be better, could be worse, could be in a hearse.

So sorry to hear!

Thanks Matt. Thankfully, it's back up and running again. Only wires and coil burned up. The rest wasn't touched. There's just small little stuff left like sanding and painting the tins to
make them look nice. The fuel filter is going in a different location. Never again in the engine area. I suggest that everyone do the same. Get rid of the German braided stuff and use clamps.

Over the last week I started to work on the Strap to fix the the main power switch. When I built the car I opted to do away with the Key switch for a Power switch and push button start switch to start the car.

The power toggle switch broke off so I didn?t bother with it for over a year. Patrick came to my aid and helped remove the hood so it would be easy  to work on the switch. I got a new toggle switch and Patrick put it in for me.
To make a long story short I also needed a new battery. After the new battery was in it started right up. Thanks Patrick, job well done?

Maintain Your Car or Truck Battery in Storage
The most important consideration when storing any battery is to make sure the voltage never drops below 12.4 volts. Following these simple tips on battery maintenance can help extend the life of your battery.

If you are storing the battery for an extended period of time, one of the best ways to prevent damage is to make sure the voltage never drops below 12.4 volts. We recommend using a type of "battery maintainer" ? a device that will monitor your battery and keep it at full potential during storage. There are two types of maintenance chargers:

Traditional "float" chargers, which provide constant voltage with tapering amperage to the battery even when it is fully charged. The typical floating charging voltage ranges from 13.0 to 13.8 volts.

Fully automatic multistage or multistep chargers, which monitor the battery and charge it as necessary. Some of these multistep chargers are also capable of working well as battery chargers.

If it is not possible to use a maintenance charger, disconnect the battery from the vehicle during storage to prevent the vehicle from discharging the battery. Always provide a full charge with a battery charger prior to storage, then check the battery voltage every three to six months and charge if it falls below 12.4 volts. Also, when possible, store your battery in a cool, dry location.

If it reaches 12.1 Volts.... really bad for battery life - like bye bye battery, bye bye....

I will be taking out Bob's battery.... tomorrow...

I'm not sure if it was mentioned but you should take the battery out of the car if you are trickle charging or on a maintenance charge. If something should happen like a boil over or a short, you might end up replacing a floor pan or a car. Also, don't leave the battery on the floor for charging. too cold. Leave it on a shelf.
