Sky,

I really don't want to have to go the "friendly mechanic" route.  If Rick or someone can do it where I pass legally by appropriate carb adjustment, that's one thing.  but I'm not sure I could ethically justify just "buying" a sticker, although I know plenty of places that'll do it

Rick is ASE certified and does this for a living and is 100% legit!
Hold up on that thought about swapping out engines and work with what you have. It might be simple or not but you won't be able to tell sitting in the driveway, thats where the pro can come in handy. Sometimes you have to "give in" and go see the guy with the CO. meter!

Nope, there's a VIN is in the engine compartment.  You're thinking of the number that's stamped into the oil filler stand.

I passed emissions!

HC was 496 or something.  -just- under 500...  I'm now convinced that the choke was on the first time around.

but I failed for my blinker.  get this: my right blinker works fine with the headlights off.  if the headlights are on, it doesn't blink.  ...?  any ideas?
