Might I suggest that a shortened hood prop-rod from a modern car would work well and be very clean?





Or you can remove the latch from the body, mound it in a tube that can be slid out and locked in place with a knob, thus raising the actual position of the latch. Just reach under the car turn knob, raise decklid to desired height, tighten knob

Nah don't have those parts laying around, but I am going to add a second clevis pin to hold prop in place when not in use instead of the c clamp

What! the c-clamp is killer....cant get more rat then that.

OK, the  c clamp idea was just a tad too crude even for my sensibilities & awkward to use. Large washer is slotted & ground down on the ends and goes in last to act as a wedge & make everything tight. Drilled a hole for a zip tie so it can't vibrate loose & fall away. When not in use I just fold the prop in, turn the clevis pin the other way & install clip. All that shows @ that point is one hole & the top of the pins.
