71 Super Hood Latch
« on: December 28, 2010, 07:54:31 pm »

Hey, cable will not unlock hood.  Now, only fix I have seen is break the glove box and pull cable manual, or hacksaw front handle off.  If I do either of these, my inclination is to NOT reinstall cable, so would hod lock work without cable release mechanism?

I think you can grab the cable with pliers to open the hood inside the glove box.

You have to have a cable or you can't open the hood and if you remove the hood latch so you can just lift the hood you run a good chance of the wind getting under the hood while driving down the road and when the hood opens you can't see and you stand a good chance of an accident.

You can try to drill out the rivets that hold the handle to the box then you can pull the whole handle to open the hood.

If I remember correctly, either Scarecrow or Bugaru (they shared a vendor spot) had a glove box liner complete with cable assy attached at Englishtown fall.

Bugaru had one... For what it's worth the cable has to be adjusted as tight as you can get it & lube the hood latch mechanism. Also all attachment points must be secure. It's a trial & error thing but once done will work perfectly. Have done it with repo cable & repo plastic glove box & original cable & glove box
