That depends on the atmospheric conditions if (skip) is running usually in late summer/fall you could talk from one state to another however most of the time with a stock radio and short antenna a few miles should be no problem ( skip in simple terms:) when radio signal bounces up off the atmosphere and is directed way out there are some times it will make a double bounce usually in the fall off the atlantic and you can hear bases from the UK I have quite a few post cards from the ones I have talked to. It's been a while but  I think it was 16 AM & 17 SSB on CB. I used to spend my summers on Barnegat Bay, allways fun to talk to the boats.

Gee Traveler, if you still have your ticket, that makes 3 of us, including Jack.  s#r Wonder if there's any interest... 2 meters in the cars would be awesome!
