OK Kiddies.

I Told you about my motor running without a coil wire in "Holy Ghost in the Machine Batman".

I told you how we thought we found the cause in "Holy Flamethrower Batman"

I told you about the dissapointment of swapping the coil only to find that it did the same thing in "Coil Oil, Schmoil Oil".

This evening,  I replaced the pertronics distributor with my new Genuine German Bosch 009 (Thanks Matt  WA# ) Installed a Genuine Bosch Blue Coil and static timed it. Got all excited!!!  So I turned the key and it fired up and it ran! Rough... but it ran. I was so relieved. It was finally fixed. After a minute or so the idle jumped up to about 2 grand so I shut the key off and... IT CONTINUED TO RUN!  &m& &m&

So after trying a few different things I called Jay. With Bugaru in tow (on the phone) we disconnected EVERY wire on the Meanie's Engine except the 12v to the coil. Started her up... it ran faster than ever (no load from the alternator). I turned off the key and it continued to run!

Oohmmmmmm... Oohmmmmmm...

Time to step back. Take a breather. Tomorrow, I will make a temporary switch to remove the last wire and see what happens. Please feel to post your comments and suggestions  Oohmmmmmm... Oohmmmmmm... Peace

Have you tried pulling the hot to the coil off? If you do and it stops running then you have a bad ing. switch.
I don't have to go to work in the morning....

Dude-dddddddddd That's freaken Impossible. Are you saying that the engine is running with no electrical current going to the engine. No engine plug, or coil wires? No Distrubitor?  I don't believe it! How did you do it. Does it still use fuel?  s#r

Dumb question, but have you tried starting it with the distributor cap off? I'm just curious to know if it will.  P#3 P#3

plugs get so hot they keep igniting fuel with no spark, "Dieseling" ? I read someplace this happens with top fuel dragsters because of the ridiculous compression ratios.  2CENTS

Pull the plugs and if it still runs call GM they could use something new to sell!  LAUGH@

Yeah I think that is what is going on here. Re heads are so hot that they are still ignighting the fuel.
Does it have to be running for a while for this to happen? 
If it still does it while the engine is cold, then I got nothing.

It will also do it with timing too far advanced or idle screw up too high.

Well it's reasonably certain, guessing, that you have a dieseling problem. Volkswagen introduced the Idle shutoff valve on their carbs just to cure this problem.

But with your duel carbs I don't know how you would stop the flow of fuel to the engine when you turn it off.

Are the throttle plates completely closed at idle? Is gas leaking past the needle valves?

With the high idle it's very hard to detect an air leak which would fuel the problem.

Disconnect your linkage to each carb to make sure the throttle plates are closed at idle. CHIT we know a engine can diesel but not without fuel. I would look at that more.

More facts:

It wont do this until it warms up for about 60 seconds.

The electric fuel pump shuts off when the key shuts off so the reason it stopped in the video is it ran out of gas.

We pulled the #2 & 4 plugs and they are clean (didn't pull the other 2 yet)

Again:
It's not running smoothly. It has a definite miss whether the key is on or not.

This problem just showed up 1 day. No work had been done. I drove it on the cruise for 60 mi,  then each weekend for the next 5 without even a hint of a problem, I went to start it and it gave me a real hard time and when it finally started it did this.
