Switched gears today (no pun intended) and took inventory of engine parts for my '56 Nigel project. Have to decide on Bug Spray or dual Kadrons, muffler with dual flair tips or header with quite muffler and cylinder size. I have a set of 1500 Variant S jugs. They are domed pistons. Does anyone know the compression ratio for them. Not sure about changing spark plugs with the dual carb set up in a bug engine bay. Looks very tight! I don't think I like the look of a muffler hanging down from the header. Looks to be very low to the ground. Any body have input! Need Input !!!! I think old school cuz I am!
I have the 1500S Varient engine in the Dunebuggy. I never had problems. I used to know the compression ratio but
forgot it. I always used high test because it sits for long periods of time. 70 HP, I think. (with two stock Solex's).
I understand the two carb is the best set-up, short intakes- less gasoline coming out of the vapor. More HP. Porsches, BMW cycles all use the two carb setups.
The Bug Spray was a band-aid carb. The other two barrel's (ie Zenith, Solex, Webers etc's) were all big improvements.
Extractor exhaust is good for 5-10 HP, depends on what else is on the engine. There are hidden set-ups where you can't see the muffler.
My two carb set-ups, once set-up, have been more reliable than any of my single two barrels.
Just my two cents. 2@cent
