Shawn,
If I remember correctly the ground wire for the column hooks to a spade on the column under the gas tank.

The jumper wire I just replaced. And the wire from the horn to the steering column is also connected properly.

I'll try the test light. Thanks Bob.

Changed the oil in the bus, it's been way past due. Discovered more exhaust leaks, isn't just leaking around the heater box also leaking from the muffler to heater box connection. Took the bus to the car wash... yes I do actually wash it, and I was told with the roof rack on it's too tall.  &(rage_ Would really like to get the undercarriage cleaned. I'll just take the rack off after the camp out and go back. I attempted to start the Cabriolet... wouldn't start battery completely dead, missed the Beetle a little more. About to sell it for scrap, and use that money for another bug.

Cleaned the grill...

Looks better now than it did in that shot, ran out of sunlight. I guess all it really needed was some elbow grease.  #banghead

Oh well.

find a self serve car wash (they are still around). You could then powerwash the undercarrige yourself thus you will know that it is completely done. The carwash undercarrige sprays are a joke.

I'm just afraid id knock somthing loose, like wires or something. I thought the automatic one would be less agressive.

as I mentioned earlier, Ive been chasing a gas leak. More of a drip. It's been coming from the fuel valve under the tank which is aggrevating because I rebuilt the valve 6 months ago. But as I said, Ive been noticing the drip. Took the tank out, checked the valve and noticed the nut was cracked. Cant get the nut anywhere so I bought a used fuel valve off the samba. Replaced the nut, installed the tank, still dripping. Removed the tank, replaced the gaskets, retightened the nut using the correct method and reinstalled the tank. Still dripping. Changed fuel valves. Finally got smart and didnt install the tank. Just turned it over onto some boxes so I could watch what was happening. After 30 seconds- drip, drip.

 &(rage_ &(rage_ &(rage_ &(rage_ &(rage_ &(rage_ &(rage_ &(rage_ &(rage_ &(rage_ &(rage_ &(rage_ &(rage_ &(rage_ &(rage_ &(rage_

Looked closely at the valve from all angles while it dripped. I noticed it was leaking from the tank itself at the screw outlet.

Anyone know where I can get a tank welded? It has to be welded right at the base of the screw outlet.

John,
I learned to fix them  %$oldcit by filling them with water, turning it upside down and brazing the bottom. Worked every time!  2@cent

you can buy brazing rod or you can use coat hangers without the plastic on them. You need a torch,
