the cane with the retro-rockets must have worked!

I have an extra bushing someplace if you need it

Why don't you just spilt the bushing so you can get it over the rod & then push it into its holder. Better than no bushing

Thanks Bob, my wife stuck the cane someplace and lit the rockets. I'll let you know about the bushing.

Easier said then done Mark and I can't work crunched up in a car like I use to.

new brakes on 08 beetle

ghia- new horn relay- I have a horn now! Replaced the rubber boot on the dual horns. This is why the original relay went out- it filled with water.
also on the ghia- new rear defroster relay, new front brakes. Also, I have been having issues with the fuel filler door release mechanism. Real PITA to pull the door release. So I took the assembly out to lubricate it. I also took a file and elongated the mounting holes on the lever at the gas inlet. Sometimes I have to pry out the lever in order to get the door to latch closed. Well, all of the work on the cable was for nothing- in trying to unscrew the pull handle, I snapped the wire. New ones for beetles go for $30. Ghia ones go for $70. &m&  The good news is, I found a friend on the samba !5! who has a used one for $30.

I also regret to say that Weezer has to go outside under a cover for a few days. I had to move the ghia inside to work on it and Ned cant go outside until he gets painted.

Thanks. I'll check Samba for the C clamp trick. I had hoped the pins would come out fairly easy, but have resigned myself to the fact they have to be driven out a little at a time. Never used PB before, but have heard nothing but good about it....still nothing coming out the bottom of the hinge...but the puddle is going down faster....PROGRESS!!! :icon_cheers:

I finally gave up and did this:

Thanks for the suggestion Shaun

Before

after

I'll tell you how they work later. If it works good and anyone wants to borrow it- no problem

It took about a half hour to grind it down. The only problem I had was driving out the top pin. I couldn't get directly below the hole and the bit bent a bit. I had to drive the pin back down with a regular hammer in order to get the air hammer out. The bottom pin was a piece of cake. It took all of 5 seconds before it started to come out and then it came out so fast it went flying !fright!. I looked up to see where the pin went and it was already falling back to earth....hit me right smack in the ear.....Guess I can always get another earring put in... LAUGH@

Remmember, If your not worried about the paint , you can heat the center part of the hinge a little. Also, if you can get a little help, have some one work the door back and forth while using the air hammer on the top hinge. Oh and as far as the flying hinge- lay a towel or rag over the top of the pin and then it wont fly up on you.
