Drove the vert to Cracker Barrel had a great ride down the turnpike. . .  with a full load  lol

Pulled right front tire to clean out and adjust the brakes
took the passenger door apart to unjam the window crank, greased the cable and track, reinstalled it all and replaced the broken passenger outer door handle and guards on both sides

Yesterday was clearing clogs out of the gas lines and resetting the points, timing and adjusting the carb since he's getting some run time under his belt.

where are you getting clogs in the gas line?

Screen in the tank and the steel line in the tunnel.  I pulled the tank out of the parts beetle to use in this one and between the compressor and shopvac I got most of the sediment and junk out before I installed it but you can never seem to get it all.  Every day or so I blow out the lines just until it clears the rest of the crap out of the system

today and yesterday...

Put the 74's front end up on jackstands to pull the tires and do some adjustments to the brakes.  Going to need new wheel cylinders for each side since the bleeder valves are broken off on both wheels.

While i was there i noticed some bubbling in the undercoat in the passenger wheelwell.  There were some obvious spots that i knew were rusting through so i started picking at them.  That was a bad move  #banghead

End result.... I scraped, brushed and cleaned off all the undercoat,  cut out the rusted out spots and started welding in clean sheet metal.  Got one done and over half of the second one in before the rain chased me inside.  I work in the driveway and power tools and rain dont mix, especially a welder.

Hopefully get it done tomorrow if the weather holds out.  That was my day  *9rain)

Just some random thoughts;

    If you ask your wife to help you bleed the brakes, show her which pedal is the brake and which is the clutch. Make sure she understands to pump the brake, not the clutch. Because after 30 minutes and you haven't got any brake fluid out the rear bleeders you will be frustrated to find out she has been pumping the clutch pedal.

Been having problems keeping the engine running at idle.  Cleaned up the Pic34-3 that came with the engine, but no matter how much I adjusted it the car wouldn't stay running below 1500 rpms.  Timing wouldn't line up either.  Spent a lot of time checking all the vac lines, checking for leaks on the carb itself and noticed the throttle bushings were letting in a lot when I sprayed carb cleaner on the arm.

Beyond the point of frustration, I was looking through what parts I have and found an old H30/31 that we got extra with our parts car.  Cleaned it up, checked all the mechanisms and reset the screws to factory and popped it in the engine.

Right away I'm holding idle at 1000 rpms, purring like a kitten.  Did some more checking tonight just to make sure it's still holding.  Everything looks good so tomorrow heading to workand back is our road test .  Wish me luck.

Also put in my radio and ran wires to the rear speakers.  Every time I work on the dash I'm reminded that German hands must be way smaller than mine are!

Cleaned up the passenger seat tracks and got the seat moving again, a few repairs to the floorpain on that side and someone can finally sit there.

A lot of times, if not all the time a problem like that is due to a air leak or a bad Idle cut off  valve.

With the key turned I could hear the idle click when it disconnect/connect the wire from the coil and the seal was good and tight on the cutoff.  I was hoping I could get off that easy but everything seemed to be good there.
